Early Wheatley japanned metal/hinged cover compartment box measures 3.5 x 2.5 inches. This box has 51 clips; 21 on one side and 30 on the other. The cover of the box is engraved with what may be the original Owner initials and a date of 1910. "Richard Wheatley started making these around 1890 replacing the leather covered card boxes. They are made from tin plate, finished with black japanned exterior and white enamel. sold
