FF710 — Gart Bros set Fly, spin and casting rod with case. 1961

Made by Phillipson

This mint condition set of fly, spinning and casting rods was crafted by the Phillipson Rod Co in 1961 as a contest winning prize for Gart Bros. Sporting Goods. It was first prize for the fisherman who entered "My Favorite Fishing Spot" contest. All three rods were crafted in 1961 by Phillipson on Eponite fiberglass blanks. The rod guides are wrapped with Henna nylon thread with a spiral wrap. The Phillipson nickel silver ferrules are gold plated. The set consists of a Phillipson fly rod model R80F. Includes a vinyl bag and labeled gold anodized aluminum tube. The fly rod may have been fished once. The next rod in the set is a 6' 2 piece baitcasting rod. This rod is fitted with Perflex guides. The rod is rated lures up to 3/8 oz. Included is a labeled vinyl bag, no tube. The third rod is a spinning rod R641 model measuring 6'4". Rated for lures thru 3/8 oz. with straight cork grip with gold anodized sliding reel seat. It has Perflex guides.

All 3 of these rods and tubes fit into a custom crafted vinyl pouch. We believe this set to be one of a kind set of Phillipson rods. All three rods are wrapped with Henna nylon thread. The nickel silver ferrules on all rods are gold plated.

Also included is the original letter and envelope from Gart Brothers addressed to the winner of the contest. The 1961 article in the Denver Post is included.
